Ecclesiastes 12: This is Everything!

May 14, 2010

Last night we closed out Ecclesiastes – it was bittersweet but a lot of fun.  Briefly, our Maker has made us for a purpose and that defines everything about life.  In essence, to find true life we must fear God and keep His commands.

Ecclesiastes 10: Take a Chance on God!

April 16, 2010

Last night at WELD we hit Ecclesiastes 10 where we felt Solomon’s plea to trust God by taking the risks that He calls us to take.  Nothing in life is guaranteed, there is loss at stake in anything worth doing so the best course of action is to believe that God will care for you as you take chances on following Him.

Ecclesiastes 9: Start NOW!

April 11, 2010

Really enjoyed this message from Ecclesiastes 9 as we discovered that death’s effect on life is to magnify its worth.  Death does not rob life of meaning, it fills it with meaning!  The sooner we realize this the better, because like hebel, we’re quickly running out of time.

Ecclesiastes 7: Live Like You’re Dying!

February 19, 2010

Light night at WELD we found that Solomon would not be content with us simply hearing his story and thereby learning his lesson.  Instead he calls us to go to the mortuary, the cemetery, and the morgue ourselves to realize in the bitterness of death that the sweetness of life is experienced only by wisdom; and yet that wisdom only comes by an encounter with death itself.

Note: True, I ripped off Kris Allen, but he ripped off Ecclesiastes – what goes around comes around…

Ecc 5&6: Get Some Satisfaction

February 7, 2010

We resumed our series on Ecclesiastes in WELD looking at chapters 5 &6.  As we did, we revisited the sinister nature of greed and the driving power of faithful satisfaction.

Ecclesiastes 5: Recognize!

January 22, 2010

Last night we continued our series on Ecclesiastes in WELD and found how common it is for people to think lightly of God and treat Him like just another person.  In the first 7 verses of Ecclesiastes 5 Solomon warns against breaking the promises we make to God by calling us to recognize who we’re dealing with.

Ecclesiastes 4: Share This Life!

January 8, 2010

We resumed our study of Ecclesiastes in WELD last night and we realized how the most important things in life rise to the surface in the face of death and injustice.  Though Solomon has much more to say yet this much is clear, people and relationships matter.

Ecclesiastes 3: See that Life is Beautiful!

November 6, 2009

Our series in Ecclesiastes continued last night at WELD.   Focusing on Chapter 3 and Solomon’s great poem we were reminded that God makes everything beautiful in its time, the good and the bad, the glorious and hideous.  And the reason we need to see life as beautiful with its highs and lows is because this is the essence of faith, to see God as faithful and true when its hardest to believe.

Ecclesiastes 2: Live Now!

October 23, 2009

We continued our series in Ecclesiastes at WELD last night.  First we felt Solomon’s hatred for life that was rooted in covetousness and ultimately we discovered that enjoying the lives we are given is a gift from God that honors Him.

Ecclesiastes 1: Don’t Waste Your Breath!

October 16, 2009

We had a great time again at WELD last night.  For the message we began our series in Ecclesiastes by focusing on the most important word in the book (Hebel), feeling Solomon’s frustration with life, and rediscovering the solution to our quickly passing lives in the God who overcomes death.
